You probably don't want to yell "I have blood in my poop!" when you're standing in a crowd. However, if you turn around one day and see bloody stools in the toilet, it's certainly something you might be screaming inside your head. Seeing blood is bad enough, seeing your own blood is worse. When you start seeing blood in your poop, that's gone too far. If you've just exclaimed to yourself, "I have blood in my poop!", what could be the problem? What should you do?

There are actually quite a few reasons why you might have blood in your poop. Some of them could be serious. Most of them are not. The first thing you need to ask yourself is, "How do I know it's blood?" You may not have realized this before, but there are actually several foods that can make your poop look bloody. Tomatoes and beets can turn your stools red. That makes sense now that you think about it, doesn't it? Other possibilities include blueberries, licorice, iron supplements, Pepto-Bismol--all of these can turn your stools black, which looks a lot like blood in your poop. So the first thing you need to eliminate as a cause is your diet. Have you eaten any of these foods or taken any of these substances in the last 18 hours?

If food is not the cause of your strange-looking stools, then you probably should accept the likelihood that you actually do have blood in your poop. By itself, this certainly isn't the end of the world. But here's the thing--you need to call up your doctor and tell him, "I have blood in my poop!" Or, you might want to wait until you're back in one of those private exam room. It's your decision. But don't delay making an appointment to see your doctor. Most causes of blood in your poop are minor. But it's important for you to know for sure.

The very first thing that your doctor will want to know is what color your stools were. The obvious answer is "red," but not all bloody poop is red. The actual color depends on where the problem is. The farther up your digestive tract the bleeding is occurring, the darker the blood will be. You see, as blood passes through your intestines, bacteria works to digest it like food. The chemical changes that bacteria cause darkens the color of the blood. The longer it stays inside your body, the darker it gets.

So what does this all mean? Well, bright red blood in your stool most likely was added just before exiting your body. The most common causes of bright red blood in your poop are hemorrhoids and anal fissures. Hemorrhoids can begin to bleed when you strain during a bowel movement or even when you wipe a little too roughly. Anal fissures are also quite sensitive to straining and may cause you to have bloody poop. If this is the cause of your problem, the doctor will probably encourage you to drink more fluids and deal with any possible causes of constipation. Another remedy that will provide great results is a colon cleanse. Natural colon cleaners help to remove old waste matter that may be contributing to your constipation.

Darker blood in your stools means that the cause is more likely in your stomach or small intestine. One of the most common causes of blood from your stomach is a bleeding ulcer. Although this sounds dangerous, it's often a result of taking medication. Even over-the-counter medications like aspirin or ibuprofen can lead to ulcers that cause no pain but that bleed into your digestive tract. If your doctor believes that this is a likely cause, he may recommend a change in medications.

Why is it so important to tell your doctor about blood in your poop? The problem could be caused by bleeding from intestinal polyps. Polyps are not that dangerous by themselves, but there is a possibility that polyps could develop into colon cancer. This type of cancer is much more likely in people over age 50. If that describes you, then you should not hesitate to get screened for colon cancer. Although colon cancer is one of the major cancer killers, it's also very easy to prevent. By discovering and removing polyps before they turn cancerous, colon cancer can be completely prevented. Whenever you notice anything that might indicate digestive tract bleeding, call your doctor immediately and tell him, "I have blood in my poop!"

If you have sleep apnea, you know that your CPAP machine is the only tool that will determine if you will spend your day cranky and sleepy or focused and cheerful. This is why you need to wear it every night. This is also a good reason why you should take care of your CPAP machine.

These machines last, on average, 12 to 14 months. But if properly taken care of, the machine can last several years. And since they're not exactly the cheapest equipment there is, you might want to make sure that they serve you for a good number of years. The following are great tips that will help you care for and maintain the optimal performance of your machine:

Proper Cleaning Schedule

It is important to wipe the whole mask and the external part of the machine every day. Other parts of the machine, however, need not be cleaned daily. The tubing, cushion, mask frame, and other parts will have to be cleaned once a week. The same is true for the filters of the machine. If the filter is the non-disposable type, you will have to replace it every six months. The disposable filters must be replaced when they have turned dark. Moreover, if you're using a rental machine, you might have installed bacterial filters, too. These filters must be replaced every 10 to 14 days.

Proper Cleaning Process

The mask, its frame, and the cushion can be handwashed with warm soapy water. Use a detergent that is mild. You should also avoid using very strong cleaning agents, such as bleach, alcohol, solutions with chlorine, and other household cleaners. After washing these parts, make sure the you let them air dry. They should also never be dried under direct sunlight. Before putting them back together, make sure that they are not damaged.

It is also possible to use the dishwasher when washing these parts of the CPAP machine. Again, it it best to use a mild detergent and to air dry the parts away from direct sunlight. When you assemble the parts that you have cleaned, you must be careful so as not to damage them.

You can also wash the tubing in warm soapy water. Before putting it back on again, you must make sure that it has no holes or splits. Any damaged part that you see must be replaced right away.

As for the filters of the CPAP machine, cleaning them once a week is also important. These foam filters make sure that you do not inhale dust and pollens in the air. You can wash the foam with mild detergent and squeeze it under running water until it becomes light-colored again. If your machine does not have disposable filters, you would still need to get rid of them after half a year.

There are machines with disposable filters and these have to be replaced after 3 months. If you see them start to get dark in color, you'll have to replace them right away. This ensures that you're breathing only clean air while you are asleep.

i HATE big bulky nappy bags, so i thought i'd share how i avoid having to carry a huge one with me. aside from nappy changing apparatus, i keep the following in my little tiny spongebob backpack: FIRST AID KIT: ice pack, cloth, band-aids, panadol, antacids, hayfever tablets, medicine syringe, tweezers, scissors, dettol antiseptic cream, stingose cream, teething gel, thermometer strips. EVERYTHING ELSE: tissues, drink bottle, toy, spare dummy, emergency money, spare disposable nappy, drink bottle adapter, paw paw ointment. i keep my clean cloth nappies along with change mat, wet bag, powder and wipes in a container / bag that permanently lives in the bottom of my pram, which lives in the boot of my car- so i never have to lug around a huge bag, and i always know that i have nappy changing stuff ready to go.

No one likes to have a dirty house, but then holidays, kids, cooking, and job all make demands of you, it's easy to see why housekeeping goes to the back of the line - or falls out altogether. So, what do you do when you need to clean house but don't have the time? Change your standards.

Unreasonable standards

When you look back on your life, the things that stay in your mind are some of the things related to homekeeping not how much time you spent at the office. It's home and hearth you remember, you pine for, you need. Too many people think that they have to either be "Martha" or give up on home chores completely. It's not an "either/or" situation. Perfection is not the goal, a reasonably clean house is -- and it needs to involve everyone. Housekeeping is not a "Mom" or "Mad" or "Mom and Dad" job. It's a "whoever lives in the house needs to help" job.

Where can you find the time?

• At Work. You probably put in extra time in your job. Just take out 10-15 minutes for yourself when you spend an extra hour at work and apply at home.

• With the kids. Spend 10 less minutes with the kids and their homework. Do your quickie cleaning while they do their studying.

• Get up 10 minutes earlier. If you find that you don't mind doing early morning cleaning, plan to do it then - or whenever you find it bothers you least.

• Get a digital video recorder (DVR). No kidding. TV sucks away your time. You can do your quickie cleaning while something is recording. A DVR will help you gain more of your life back. Check into them through your cable TV or satellite service.

Don't make housekeeping something to be endured Keeping a reasonably clean house doesn't require all day marathon cleaning week in and week out. Consistent cleaning on a regular basis is enough to get you through to the times when you can spend the time.

Two must-do's

Really, there isn't much you must do to keep a reasonably neat home, but there are two.

1. You must make your bed - and have the kids make their bed. Nothing makes a house feel messier. It takes less than 30 seconds to make a bed.

2. You must do the dishes. Empty the dishwasher and fill it with the dirty dishes every single day. This is five minutes of effort.

Next, you need the right tools to help you "quick clean."

Quickie Cleaning Tools

Think convenience here. Get the disposable mopping and cleaning wipes. You'll use these because they're instantly ready to go to work.

• Cleaning tools in every bathroom (toilet brush, cleaner, disposable cleaning wipes)

• Popup glass or multisurface wipes that can be used on stoves, counters, appliances, windows, and bathrooms

• Swiffer mop and mopping pads. The Swiffer mop with the pretreated mopping pads can help you get up all the stains and sticky stuff quickly and easily and it's quick drying.

• A quick vac. My favorite is the Eureka "Quick Up" for about . It has settings for hard floors and carpeting and works great.

• A stack of microfiber towels for dusting

Even the person who says that they have no time can find about ten minutes to do a quick clean each day. Remember, you and your family need a living space where you can de-stress. Dirt and clutter add to stress. Take the ten minutes to give back to your house. It'll repay you and your family in enjoyment, relaxation - and pride.

The 3-Step No-Time-to-Clean Cleaning Plan

1. Do a daily "Clean Sweep."

Set the timer and get everyone in a different room of the house. Or, give someone a mop or a vacuum. Set the timer for five minutes. Everyone go at it - straighten, put things away, give surfaces a quick dust, vacuum and/or mop.

2. Get a quick vac.

Diaper bags are a very convenient way to stores all the essentials that baby needs to keep them well fed, well clothed and dry. Good bags are equipped with compartments for extra clothes, bottles, baby food, diapers, creams, and of course sanitary wipes.

One very important item that many parents forget about is disposable diaper bags. No matter where you are - inside or outside of your home - when you change baby's diaper, it is always a good idea to have an extra disposable diaper bag to throw the diaper in before disposing of it in a trash can. There is nothing worse in a public restroom than the smell of a diaper that has been tossed into a can without some sort of wrap. You can also buy scented or unscented and use them for other things like garbage and dog liter.
